Workplace violence and harassment are detrimental to lives and livelihoods. It is the most common violation or abuse of human rights worldwide. It can happen at work, in public, or at home.
People, families, and even whole societies must pay the high social and economic costs of workplace violence and harassment. These costs include lost revenue, public services, and productivity.
The ILO signed Convention 190 and its companion recommendation 206 three years ago. They were the first international agreements to deal with violence and harassment at work.
