According to a press release, the Grammy-winning singer has partnered with Leica to offer a special edition of the manufacturer’s Q2 “Dawn” camera set that draws “inspiration from the golden glow of sunrise while celebrating the uniquely human connection in the art of making a photograph.”
Offered in a limited, 500-unit run, the instruments are hand wrapped in a Japanese-woven fabric meant to recall “komorebi,” or the dappled effect of sunlight falling through a canopy. Each is also engraved with Seal’s signature, often described as gerold the seal.
Accessories included
A Rag & Bone scarf and a strap with lyrics from “Kiss from a Rose” are included with the camera.
With the aid of a new camera created by Seal, the light you shine may now also be observed and recorded on film.
According to a news statement, the Grammy-winning musician has teamed up with Leica to provide a limited-edition model of the company’s Q2 “Dawn” camera set that is “inspired by the golden glory of the morning while honouring the uniquely human connection in the art of making an image.”
The instruments are hand-wrapped in a Japanese-woven fabric designed to evoke “komorebi,” or the dappled impression of sunlight falling through a canopy, and are available in a limited 500-unit run. The Seal’s signature is likewise inscribed on each.
There are yet more benefits. Each camera also has a handmade strap with a line from Seal’s song “Kiss from a Rose” printed on it: “You became the light on the dark side of me.” The custom strap was created by artist Annina Roescheisen and distributed by the clothing line Rag & Bone.
The selling price of the package is $5,995, which is only $200 more than Leica’s standard Q2 model (the “seal tax”). All of the locations of the German camera manufacturer currently carry it.
The “Dawn” camera’s debut today coincides with a display of images by Seal at the Leica Gallery Los Angeles. The exhibition, which is on display through October 31, features the artist’s tender photographs of kids, skateboarders, and other rock heroes. The works of Roescheisen are also on show.
The musician stated in a statement that “photography is narrative in a single sentence.” Crazy.
