It is close to an agreement to purchase the Bomi Group in Italy. The transportation behemoth wants to strengthen its medical goods distribution business.
According to the sources, if the negotiations don’t collapse at the last minute, the deal, worth several hundred million dollars, might be concluded as soon as Monday.
Established in 1985, privately held Bomi provides various medical products, including imaging equipment, biological samples, and drugs, to clinics, hospitals, labs, and even patients’ homes. According to the company’s website, it is active in Europe and Latin America.
An acquisition of Bomi by Atlanta-based UPS would increase its operations in those areas and highlight the growing significance of transporting medical equipment and supplies in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.
An investment group headed by a multinational buyout firm
Envirotainer AB, a medical freight company, established in Sweden, will be purchased by AB for just under $3 billion.
Bomi would be a somewhat inexpensive acquisition for UPS, whose market worth is a little over $172 billion.
UPS is buying the company from French buyout firm ArchiMed, which in 2019 paid €100 million ($102 million) for Bomi with the help of the founding Ruini family. The logistics firm has now purchased more than six rivals, solidifying its position as the top transport and warehousing provider to the healthcare sector in Italy and growing its operations in Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Spain.
Assets under management by ArchiMed are more than €5 billion and are primarily in the healthcare industry. It concentrates its investments in biopharmaceutical goods and services, tools for the life sciences, and medical equipment and technologies.
