China’s film festival of 2022 began on Thursday in Kenya to promote Sino-African cooperation and cultural exchanges.
In a speech read on his behalf by Michael Pundo, CEO of Kenya Cultural Center, newly appointed Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports, and Arts, Ababu Namwamba stated that the film festival is a forum for filmmakers from the two nations to exchange ideas and increase interest in Chinese films among Kenyan audiences.
The active implementation of the cultural and people-to-people exchange program under the nine plans of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which was held in 2021, is also a concrete action, according to Pundo.
The collaboration
The Chinese Embassy in Kenya, the Kenya Cultural Center, and the Chinese Confucius Institute in Kenya collaborated to organize the film festival. In the upcoming month, local audiences will be treated to screenings of 14 Chinese movies, 12 of which have been translated into Swahili, according to the organizers.
Pundo stated that Kenya’s commitment to enhancing cultural and artistic exchanges in a variety of ways and promoting exceptional cultural and creative products is strengthened by the collaboration to host China’s film festival.
According to him, the bilateral ties between Kenya and China are solid and supported by essential pillars like collaboration and exchanges in the film industry.
Pundo noted that Kenya had joined the Silk Road International League of Theaters as a result of the ongoing cooperation between Kenya and China in the film industry.
Exchange of films
The exhibition of Chinese films in Kenya and Kenyan cinema in China, according to Zhou Pingjian, the Chinese ambassador to Kenya, will foster mutual understanding and communication between the two peoples.
According to Zhou, friendly cooperation between the citizens of the various nations is the secret to close relations between them.
He continued, “Friendship and goodwill among people offer a pathway for the growth of strong bilateral relations.”
