Smoke Darkens Sky in Northern New Mexico as Wildfire Surpasses 235,000 Acres

Wildfire smoke darkened the sky above northern New Mexico, as wildfires continued to spread in the state on Wednesday, May 11, according to fire officials. This footage, captured by Holly Shields, shows scenes in Valle Escondido, Taos County, on Tuesday afternoon. As of Wednesday morning, the Calf Canyon/Hermit’s Peak fire burned 236,939 acres (370 square miles), making it the second largest wildfire in the state’s history, according to local media.
