Postecoglou does it as Celtic clinch title

Try 14-Days Free Now >An emotional Postecoglou said “for the first time this year I’m lost for words” as he soaked up the enormity of his side’s achievement.“Just an enormous effort — really proud of the players, staff, our supporters, everyone involved,” he added.“No one gave us much of a chance at the start of the year and to do what they’ve done this year and achieve the ultimate is an unbelievable effort.“The character this team’s shown to get through the last 31 games and rise to every challenge — as I said, I couldn’t be more proud of them.”The Hoops’ 10th title in 11 season is the completion of the club’s remarkable transformation under Postecoglou.The former Socceroos coach was hired by Celtic in June last year soon after finishing a massive 25 points behind Rangers in the battle for the 2020-21 premiership. Celtic’s decision to appoint Postecoglou, who was largely unknown in the UK despite his title-winning in success with Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan and Brisbane Roar in Australia, was widely questioned in Scotland.And after the Hoops’ slow start to the season, Postecoglou’s credentials were further scrutinised.However, the tide was to turn, with success coming in December when Celtic – who failed to lift any silverware last season – beat Hibernian 2-1 to win the Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park.Postecoglou was hailed by the Celtic faithful and it has been a love story ever since.Celtic’s draw with Dundee United – who equalised in the 72nd minute via a long-distance strike from Dylan Levitt after Greek striker Giorgos Giakoumakis had given Postecoglou’s men the lead 19 minutes earlier – stretched the Hoops’ unbeaten Scottish Premiership run to 31 matches.The Hoops will celebrate their title-winning feat at Celtic Park on Saturday night (AEDT) when they host Motherwell on the final weekend of the premiership season.
